Vranac / vranec is a good varietal, and this is a good wine, especially for the price ($13). The fruit is plummy and prune-y with attractive concentration. The oak is a little strong for my tastes, with too much overt coffee and vanilla, but this wine has room to age, and the oak may integrate better. This wine has a certain gaminess too, similar to Mourvèdre. Tannins are on the heavy side, and I like the acidic balance. This wine is probably three years away from peak.
