  • This is not the easiest wine to find information about. It could be a cult wine (hence the pricing) or just genuinely obscure, but certainly the maker (a long established French wine writer) seems eclectic (http://www.eric-verdier.com/…). 1,800 bottles made.

Deep, dark red. On the nose… what is this? I’ve seen it said this will fool people in a French blind line up but on this showing I strongly doubt that. This is patently from Languedoc Roussillon. The nose is ripe and rich, the fruit very much in the dried spectrum- prune, a touch of Xmas pudding, plum compote, plus a touch of barnyard. Almost reminds me of a King Valley Durif. With a lot of air the palate is definitely fresher than the nose might suggest, but this is still a full bodied, sun drenched style- the big surprise being the abv at just 14pc. Hardly budges even open for four days which suggest it will keep, but will it genuinely improve? Hard to say.
