  • 2018 Quentin Jeannot Santenay Vieilles Vignes was fresh, juicy and expressive. The youthful Santenay Pinot Noir was pale ruby in colour without any sediments. On the nose, there were expressive aromatics of of ripe red cherry, blackberry and rose, as well as incense and sweet liqourice spices.

The mouthfeel was dry and medium-bodied, with rather low level of easy-going tannin and medium-high level of fresh acidity. There were flavours of cranberry, strawberry, smoke and a touch of wet stones in a medium juicy finish. It appears that the wine was made in a fruity early-drinking style, and the palate did not quite live up to the expressive aromatics. The alcohol level was at 13%. Not much winemaking information could be found online.

  • Not hugely complex, but a nice entry level Burg with cran-cherry fruit, a touch of smoke and food-friendly acids. May develop a bit more in bottle but I’d drink by 2025.
