  • Dark fruit, iron, orange peel and spice on the nose and palate. It was quite dense and slightly brooding yet the palate still welcomed you with its sweetness. It should improve with aging but it is already drinking well, especially for an 05. 92-93

  • My first guess after tasting this was 2005 GC. This has tremendous potential but it is really coiled up currently. It is drinkable but not delivering the elegance that I would expect at this level. I think this needs to sleep for another 10 years and then it can be 98+ points.

  • Gwen's belated birthday: Popped and corked back at lunch for dinner. Silky with fresh strawberry fruit at first so some went for Vosne. Incredibly youthful still with vibrant red fruit notes. Didn’t have the fireworks of the Barthod or Pousse d’Or but the palate had the most depth. Became denser and more tannic with air. A long way to go for this wine yet.

  • Best palate for today’s tasting. Still very young with plenty of fruits, guessed this as an ‘09 Petits Monts. The wine continued to put on weight throughout the night, with Grand Cru density after 2 hours. Drinking well now with upside from here.

  • 4 of 12 opened @1:00 and served @ Cafe Spaghetti alongside 2008 Guyon CdlR. An interesting pair. The Guyon which was opened at dinner was far more open and lighter weight than the tighter, spicier Lignier. After an hour in the glass the Lignier opened up beautifully, dark rich fruit laced with spice and earth, integrating tannins, lovely texture, perfectly balanced ending with a persistent finish.

(L.A. LIGNIER CLOS DE LA ROCHE) 2005 Burgundy Dear Friends, When Hubert Lignier’s estate was divided, it left an opportunity for the next generation to improve on the already fine quality that this house was known for (Lignier was made famous in the US a few decades ago by an unknown wine writer named Robert Parker jr.). Through a complex web of inheritance, trial and tribulation and family tragedy this new estate was born and the 2005s are shockingly strong. This is essentially Lignier’s 2005 stable of wines with a new label designation of L & A Lignier (Lucie & Auguste Lignier). I cannot recommend this set of wines highly enough and I’m sure you will find them to be complex and ponderous examples of their vineyard sites. They’ve been highly acclaimed by Allen Meadows, David Schildknecht and others but the beauty of the wines is in their transparent but powerful expressions that should reward those that cellar them or open them early to enjoy their youthful fruit. I’m torn to even print the scores as most of you can certainly look them up on your own, but I know you will ask so I’ve done so below. Let’s give this set of wines the credence they deserve without score-chasing - please read the verbiage for a better indication of the style. All are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for relative value at the top end of each category in 2005 All are directly from the source with perfect provenance - NOT VIA THE GREY MARKET All are EXTREMELY LIMITED - please let us know your interest at your earliest convenience (this is not Lignier-Michelot or George Lignier - this set may be listed as Hubert Lignier or just Lignier in the WA or other) 2005 Lignier (Lucie & August) Bourgogne Passeoutgrains (WA/NR)(BH/NR) 2005 Lignier (Lucie & August) Fixin “Les Champs Vosger” (WA/NR)(BH/NR) (this is really lovely) 2005 Lignier (Lucie & August) Morey St Denis (I really like this wine) 2005 Lignier (Lucie & August) Gevrey Chambertin “Les Suevrees” (WA/NR)(BH/NR) (this should be long-lived - lots of depth and mineral-rich, elegant but powerful fruit - very hard to find) 2005 Lignier (Lucie & August) Morey St Denis “Les Chaffots” 2005 Lignier (Lucie & August) Morey St Denis 1er (VV) “Romain Lignier” 2005 Lignier (Lucie & August) Chambolle Musigny “Les Baudes” 2005 Lignier (Lucie & August) Gevrey Chambertin “aux Combottes” (this is not George Lignier) 2005 Lignier (Lucie & August) “Clos de la Roche” Grand Cru Please give us your maximum number of each and we will allocate accordingly Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Burg5901 Burg5902 Burg5903 Burg5904 Burg5905 Burg5906 Burg5907 Burg5908 Burg5909
