  • This is a difficult Chardonnay to nail down. The tastes changed as the bottle warmed up and opened up.

The hue is a pale golden yellow - almost a cross between a Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The bouquet was sweet lemons, tart apple, floral aromas and a hint of herbs with a touch of cinnamon and nutmeg.

    Served chilled from the refrigerator.

The first tastes upon pouring were of pineapple, green apple, lemon and a hint of butterscotch and orange rind on the finish. This was much more the profile of a Sauvignon Blanc. It then became somewhat overwhelmed with a deep smoky oak and a bitter orange rind taste. As it warmed further, the taste was green apples and honeysuckle accented by lemon and orange citrus notes and a warm butterscotch finish.

My wife said that every time she drank some, it tasted different. The wine at first was very discordant with the flavors not blending at all but at the end it was very smooth and pleasant.

The initial taste was a 91, dropped to an 89 with the discordant smoked notes and bitterness and then up to a 92 as it opened up and warmed.

Served with Chicken Mornay and an orzo lemon salad with red onions, asparagus and green peas. This wine stood up to the deep cheese flavor of the Guyere cheese in the Mornay sauce and the lemon zest in the orzo lemon salad.

Would buy again, but make sure it is served closer to 50 degrees than to 40 degrees. There is a significant difference in flavor.

  • Good but for this money there are others that we prefer Duckhorn. Grgich

  • Great Chardonnay! This bottle was more than I usually pay for a Chard ($34) - please don’t judge me. It was worth the price. It was smooth and not overly oaked. Some of the Chardonnays that I’ve had have had too much citrus and are too acidic. This one was not. Nice pear and melon on the palate and pleasant finish. Would buy again. Paired with crab cakes and it was fantastic
