This was consumed over the course of an afternoon/evening and was well enjoyed. Yes, there’s a good bit of reduction and no it never fully blows off. It’s flinty, aggressively acidic, a little grassy with a pithy finish, and quite saline. Refreshing in the way a good margarita can be but with none of the sweetness. This vineyard has tons of personality but I have to say I favored a 19 Sojeau chard tasted just a couple weeks prior for its balance. And I agree with Josh Abramson that it remains coiled, opening only slightly in the glass with time and air, and many years of development remain for this wine.
From a bottle opened last night - I was drinking this along side of the 2019 Rock Salt.
This still has a pretty strong note of reduction on the nose, which I realize can be a fairly divisive feature for a lot of drinkers. I like it, but my wife detests it. So however you want to describe it - gunflint, petrol, etc., just be aware that it is noticeable.
Like the 2019 Rock Salt, though, for a relatively young wine this seems somewhat open knit. I saw that a previous note described the wine as coiled, and while I know palate’s can differ, I honestly don’t get that here. This has good acidity and persistence, but I can see the reduction turning off some wine drinkers.
