Gaja tasting, wine #2. Named after Angelo Gaja’s younger daughter Rossana. This base level Chardonnay has 5% SB and is aged for 6 months in oak barrels. Pale yellow colour. Aroma of hazelnuts, yellow flowers, peaches, apples, chalky and honey hints. Palate is round and fresh with well balanced creaminess, ripe acidity, fresh and zesty finish with persistent citrusy notes.

Green grass, tropical fruit, acidic, grapefruit, fresh, crispy finish, Burgundy? No, yet what is it… Sauvignon Blanc? Nice, yet no Burg. Wining with Bas & Derk.

Tasted blind as Day 3 of Blind.Faith’s “12 Blinds of Christmas”. I think I could have guessed all year and not got this one right! Pale yellow coloured. The nose is interesting - there’s lime and citrus and white flowers, but also an odd hint of fairy washing-up-liquid. It’s bright and steely - almost zesty with a pithy, citrus peel note at the back of the palate. Feels tight and young and the steely lime took my guess to young dry Riesling. Wrong!
