(Imported by Grape Expectations). This is an old family estate owned and run by Claude Roux (and his two adult children Isabelle and Julien). Antique writings suggest this domain existed in the 900’s. The oldest vines were planted by their great-grandfather, Jules Roux.
"Bois de Les Mourres" is an old vines selection from the hillside “Les Mourres” vineyard located directly underneath the famous "dentelles" mountain range above Gigondas. Limestone gravel subsoil. Aged 10 months in French oak barrels (rather than concrete). 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah. __________
Color: Med. dark to dark ruby.
Nose: Complex, expressive, black cherry, wild black raspberry, smoke, and southern Rhône (garrigue) spices. A little tree bark spice from the Mourvèdre. Pure. Sexy!
Palate: Rustic. Love it! This has some extra oomph and dark, firm concentration from the vintage. Similar flavors to nose. Black cherry, smoky black raspberry. Full bodied, excellent concentration. Firm, rustic tannins. 15.5% alc, yet somehow no undue heat.
2019 is an excellent vintage in the southern Rhone. And this is a truly excellent vintage of "Bois des Mourres" from Notre Dame des Pallières.
--Authentic, hillside, low yield, old style Gigondas.--
92-93 pts. Drinking windows: Now: For me, this drinks young, primary, and delicious, if a little tannic. Best 2024 - 2028. Should drink well through 2030/32.
