  • PNP. cork intact. color gold. nose has pineapple, citrus peel and some green spice i can't nail down. some ginger too. swishing shows good acid spine that persists on the finish. sipping shows RS but tonight it is not as prominent as it was last summer. shows better lightly chilled. good but stick by my prev conclusion that this will deteriorate before it esterifies . will continue to drink these with spicy food near term.

  • PNP. cork wet 1/4th way up. color light gold. nose has honeyed citrusy fruit. swishing shows both acid and RS, but the RS is stronger. finish is lengthy and dominated by RS right now. still in fine shape, but thinking this won't reach that creamy detente that i enjoy in aged riesling.

  • 27-01: Licht goudgele kleur, heldere schittering. Dik tranend.
Lange afdronk, rozijn.
Vind ik lekker, maar wellicht wat eenvoudig. Mist wat spanning.
15-02: heel wat complexer en rijker geworden. Blijft spanning missen, maar nu zalvend, dessertwijn. 89+

  • I don't remember if I had this on release, but the Wurzgarten is seared in my memory for its polish and grace. This seems like a blockbuster in comparison but I can't say yet whether that's the site or the age talking. Regardless, it is rich and surprisingly broad-shouldered without quite crossing the line into auslese territory. It also has a laser-like acidic spine. I like how it's maintaining its structural freshness even as the fruit flavors are starting to take on a paler, more developed tone.

  • popped and poured this time in proper glass. color dark straw. nose shows candied pineapple, with light citrus and intense minerality. on the palate, this has significant intensity of flavor, balanced beautifully by acid. RS there but kept at bay by acidity. finish is medium long and cheek coating. i am thrilled with this for $15. would be happy in low 20's too. delicious wine. youthful and long life ahead.
