Dinner with the wine group (O Sole Mio): Forest floor, sous bois, delicate nose; palate is medium bodied, red fruit, some forest floor, fading fruit but still present, medium alcohol; medium length finish. A bit limited in depth but nice for how it is showing. 89

Reticent bouquet even after an hour of air, hints of dark fruits, cherry and spice. Deep color in the glass, red fruits cloaked by a layer of tannins that slowly yielded after an hour or so. Short finish. This never reached equilibrium, with tannins and acid dominating and the fruit never getting a look in. Not a great showing, and I’m going to give this the benefit given the raw materials and assume it’s shutdown.

Next to the 1993 Ampeau Volney served with it, you could tell how insanely young this is. Fine now with air, but will age forever. 20000000 AD and beyond.

Not a representative bottle (or maybe post-covid parosmia) - great nose as described but for me reduction didn't blow off over three hours. Next bottle in a while, or with a lenghty decant - you can tell the raw materials are great.

Bottle #2 of 3. Stick’n Pour. Appeared cloudy against the light, so decided to test with Coravin a few days before dinner. Indeed nothing wrong here. Been a while since I’ve had this intense scent greeting me from the glass. Alluring on the nose, anise, soft forestfloor, hits all the right keys. Plain and simple, just a perfectly matured, scented ‘05 Volnay with a lovely lift to it. To me Volnay doesn’t get much better than this. Jean Marc Bouley did a lot of things right in his days - chapeau! Looking forward to retasting in a few days. Stunning wine. (95-97 points)
