  • This is okish, 14% and you feel it, not my style thus, but a decent drink and not too expensive

  • I love side-by-side tasting - at least IMO, a great way to learn something about wines. I mention this because I just had a glass of the 2019 Barraud Sur la Roche, and this wine clearly displays more structure and crispness. Also my last bottle, and I guess the conclusion I would draw is that 2019 was not a great vintage for Barraud, as the wines generally don't have the cut that I look for. I have quite a few of the 21's on order, so hopefully this is just a vintage-specific issue here and not the signs of a change in the winemaking.

All that said, I think over the years Verchere has been my "sweet spot" in the Barraud lineup - cheaper than the Sur la Roche, but clearly a step up from the St. Veran bottlings. This is one of the few times where I actually prefer it to the Sur la Roche.

  • Let s be honest not a 93 or more pointer there

I had a Chablis from 2020 alongside and it has not the crisp or zing the Chablis shows ! Nice ripe aromas of butter, ripe stone fruits, honey or bee wax

Palate is pretty fat actually and full and buttery, great chardonnay from a sunny or ripe area !

have to try it again in other conditions, but it shows well that 2019 in the trilogy of 2018 and 2020 of warm vintages is the less balanced to me

  • I was just a little concerned when I read the previous note, but this bottle is sound and drinking as I would expect. It is crisp and refreshing with good acids. A good patio sipper on a warm summer day.
