  • I normally prefer wines young and with tension, but here one needs to be patient (which is often the case with the more red blooded varieties). After being open for awhile you can tell it wants to lead you up a beautiful garden path, but it's still just at the gate. I'd say this needs another 5 years at least to get to its best self. Still, the potential is obvious.

  • Drank over two days. On the second day, it was showing great. Red fruits, violets, cedar and menthol on the tip of the tongue lead to an herby and meaty mid-palate. The bright acidity, long savory finish and gentle tannins make this mellow enough for a casual Friday evening.

I'm pleasantly surprised by how it is tasting already, but it probably has a good 10 years of runway still.

  • Really enjoyed this, even young. Hit the good notes of a cab - pepper, eucalyptus, purple fruit - but one degree lighter.
