(SYP) Double blind. Guessed 2020 Volnay. PNP - A restrained nose of alcohol infused berries. It slowly opened up to show bayberries and better balance. This bottle is not as expressive or ripe as the one opened last year and is probably entering a dumb phase. 89+

Starting to drink really well. Deep, layered and luscious. Creamy black cherry fruit at its core. Some purple flowers. Good volume, minerality lurks. Wonderful precision and drive. Length to burn. Would give a top class Chambolle or Morey 1er a run for its money.

What a nose right after opening! It actually eclipsed DRC Echezeaux.. However, at dinner, it showed quite burly, almost a bit hot. Very fruit forward nose and clunky palate.
At the very end of the night, after 5 hours in the glass, all that rustic burlyness completely vanished, rendering the wine super clean. Now it is so pure and sensual with raspberry, rose petals and orange rind. Fantastic mouthfeel, so silky and a super long finish.
It seems this needs quite a bit of cellaring, but what a potential!

This bottle was a big hit. Rich raspberries and stony minerality on the nose with weight and drive on the gently tannic, dark red-fruited palate. I’m excited to see where this one goes and I’m willing to bet it fills out even more while developing extra complexity. Really like this one.
