  • Weird.....my first of the '18 vintage.

Decanted 2.5 hours and back into the bottle to take to dinner at HMCs. 92-93 to start. Enjoyed over another 4 hours of slow ox. This is chalky, cloudy opaque magenta in the glass. It stays cloudy the entire night. Nose of great florals, sweet dark red fruit.

Palate of classic Napa cab fruit. Depth and complexity here but also at the same time, kinda plain, too. It's good, being a 93-94 but that's it. Plummy fruit which stays cloudy and chalky all night. Really doesn't move much. Feels like it could be better.....should be better. But never really gets there.

  • 90-minute decant. Deep dark purplish magenta color. Stewed blackberry, French toast, plum jam, and subtle sage and walnut. Smooth, dry palate, with nice, silty acidity. Full, lower intensity tannins on the longish finish.

I think a shorter decant (30-60 min) would have been better. Might even try a PNP next time. Not quite as enjoyable as my bottle a year ago, but still very good. This was just a touch tart on the palate.

  • Wine + Pizza Night
    Wine # 2

Decanted about 3 hours, sipped and it wasn’t ready. At 5 hours it opened beautifully. Dark fruit, intense minerals and some herbs. Mix of crushed pebbles and slight earth. Nice finish.

  • Four hour slow ox. Nearly opaque electric magenta color. Blackberry, boysenberry, French toast, rosemary, and subtle Nestle Crunch bar. Very smooth, dry palate, with tongue coating acidity. Firm, full tannins on the longish finish.

This is quite open for business, with minimal aeration. It’s a rare case where JD severely underrated a wine. ;)

  • Delicious cabernet but needs more time to settle in. The tannins and acid are a little racy currently. Should dial back with time allowing the fruit to really shine in the future.
