This was crimson in the glass, bursting aromarics, smoky, wild, blueberry shrub and sour cherry, with some purple florals. Exotic and interesting, clearly carbonic maceration. Delicious stuff. I reckon Pax Sonoma Hillsides is the closest thing I’ve tasted to this.

January Rhônes (Chicago, IL): Smells like what I would imagine purple to smell like, if purple had a smell. Super natty style, but we lucked out on this one; it's pretty damn clean though there was definitely a slight hint of mousiness on the finish. Very juicy, this obviously is drinking partially like syrah juice, but mostly like a barrel sample. Very nice ripeness, black fruit, and intensity here.

Que Syrah Syrah (Chaoshan Cuisine): I was leaning towards Côte-Rôtie with the acidity and elegance behind the dense purple fruit on this. Natural style but still clean despite what I have read, although the bubble gum nature was rather distracting for me. Out of all the wines this had the strongest olive note, some liquorice that I did not like. Better with air but I think the others liked this more than me.
