A beautiful wine that seems to need a bit more time to unravel. Black cherry and earth dominate at the moment, with lurking complexity that beckons for a few more years in bottle before it comes to life. Compared to the super expressive 2019 Ceniza, this 2018 has some shy elements that currently aren’t interested in having a full blown conversation with you yet.
I especially appreciate the restraint in these La Pelle reds in general. The fruit is never overblown, over ripe, or over-oaked. Here, the 2018 will likely always be a more contemplative wine compared to it year-younger brother, but there is budding beauty that will reward with some short term cellaring.

Nose on this was beautiful and elegant. On the palate it was lovely and balanced, not as bold or round as the st helena which is more in our wheelhouse

Of the SVD's from La Pelle, this one needs the most time. Not surprising given the cooler climate and general characteristic's of Coombsville. Nevertheless, this is a really fabulous wine.
Showing lots of eucalyptus and herbal qualities, this is super firm with fruit that is hiding beneath strong tannins. At times the expression peeks out, only to be reigned back in. There are more mineral driven aspects to this wine vs its peers, and it is more BDX like with a hollow mid palate and dry finish at the moment. All the qualities are there for this to be excellent once the tannins recede some, so I would put it towards the back of the cellar and wait for it to come around. When it does, you will be very satisfied.
A big and highly tannic wine, too young! Wish I had another bottle to let sit as I'm sure it will develop into something really special. Dark fruits, green pepper, big dose of minerality. A LOT going on here.

On the palate were integrated, dark and intense red fruits, a rich earthiness but as if the earth were mixed with coffee grounds, integrated powdered graphite, and spiced oak.
Loved the integration on this one, still young but already seeing hard edges getting smoothed out. This eventually caught up and beat the Red Hen by a notch.

Napa day trip (MacDonald, Cardinale, La Pelle) (Napa): Aromas of dark, wild red flowers and fruits, a touch of black fruits, with deep earth running underneath. Dark green leaves peer through the fruits as well.
