Oak is the dominant impression. I liked the fruit underneath, but vanilla was the first aroma and oak tannins held on for the finish. Westerly website says "black cherries and some oak notes, along with a bit of dried herbs on the nose." Sounds about right. But my palate is not discerning enough to tell the difference between one oaky wine and another. Tastes good, but identical to other good oak wines.

On the nose is oak and overripe cherries and bramble fruits. Flavors of currants, black cherries, milk chocolate and vanilla carry through to a sweet, alcoholic and short finish. Good, but unbalanced in both ripeness and alcohol and acidity levels. Not recommended seeing that it is around 20 a bottle, and for the same money one could find a more balanced, concentrated, yet superripe Merlot-based Bordeaux.
