  • Myrrh good for the price. Would like to last longer in mouth but definitively to buy more

  • PnP at restaurant. Pitch black almost in color. Nose not terribly giving, with a touch of alcohol and plum. Zippy acidity, then menthol, plums, hot on the alcohol as this is quite young. Medium tannins, brooding, not excessively oaky with round, fresh finish.
Not a bad wine, but too young at this point. Give it a long decant if you can or wait 2-3 years. Bold, heavy but thankfully not jammy. 88 now, 90 potential in a couple years.

  • Oh little brother. Don't underestimate the aging potential of Petite Sirah, this one a 2018. She's a stunning young California farm girl, full of sass! I agree with Drunken’s observations. She’s direct and concentrated in showing her fruit, with enough red raspberry at the top to balance the brooding dark tones below. Really nice tension. Then comes the length melding to fill your mouth for some seconds until the black pepper tannins -- and you begin to smack the roof of your mouth. All of this while, as Drunken observed, she maintains a gravity defying lightness. Second day was even better than the first which augurs well for further development. I bought the remaining bottles from my retailer. It will be fun to know over the years how this young lady grows up. Perhaps she won't, but who cares? Right now I'm enchanted

  • Retail $28. 100% Petite Sirah. Under screw cap. I do not drink a ton of 100% PS, I usually find them a bit too big on my palate. That is not the case here. Sure, it is dark and even brooding with oodles of dark black fruit, mocha, and black pepper both on the nose and the palate, but it is surprisingly rather light on its feet. There is a vibrant tartness that counters all of that "gloom" that not only serves to brighten up the wine, but causes the imbiber to seek out some food. Again, I am far from an expert when it comes to PS, but I know this is a particularly compelling iteration of the variety.
