  • pop and pour, drunk over two nights

Darker and more brooding than the Clos Nouveau. Stone fruit more than cassis, bitter chocolate, bell pepper, violets with time. Deeper and for me more complicated and intriguing than the Clos Nouveau. Very long. Terrific. It grows more floral and deeper with air time. Still with terrific savory balance and subtle ferrous notes.

Day two more depth. Violets, dark fruit, bell pepper, bitter chocolate.Beautiful fruit depth breadth and harmony. Interestingly in this and the '16 in spite of the greater wood it seems better integrated at this point than the CN.

  • -- decanted approx.. 1 hr. before initial taste --
    -- tasted non-blind over 2.25 hrs. --

NOSE: pure, ripe, red fruits; juicy; brooding; hints of stony mineral, pyrazine, and Prorasso Green.

BODY: fine particulate matter present; garnet-violet color of great depth; medium bodied.

TASTE: medium tannins; a bit flashy; very noticeable oak; ripe, deep, red fruits; deeply-embedded stony savory aspect -- need to look past the oak; long finish is stony, with some pyrazine; medium acidity; alc. not noticeable; oak started drawing-back just prior to the 2 hrs. open mark; paired well with steak; Drinks fine now, but best to wait and let some of this oak integrate.

  • Dark, almost opaque garnet, dusty, rocky, nose, with some lovely peppery pyrazine notes, not exactly "green", but definitely earthily attractive. Some very nice darker fruit on the palate, loving the medium intensity, the earthy roasted mushroom notes, just a hint of cab franc green, dusty, chalky tannins, perfect ripeness, this is for me quintessential Loire Cab Franc. It's not easy being green, but this wine does it nicely.

  • Aromas of light red berries, fresh bread and smoke. Light on the palate, with fine structure and a dry finish. Concentrated and long. Probably improves with cellaring.
