Moderately intense aromas of black cherry and chocolate cake. Dry, with elevated acidity and moderate levels of fine, sandpapery tannins. Medium-bodied, 13°. More cherry and black tea on the palate. Not the tart, red-fruited wine I was expecting. Quite nice.

100% Ciliegiolo. Fairly intense aromas of candied black and red cherry, with a whiff of mint. Elevated acidity, moderate tannins, a bit hollow-bodied, 13°. Nice cherry fruit, pure, but lean not rich. Savory finish. This is nice. Blind, I would probably put it in Piemonte, but be confused about the variety, and end up saying Langhe Rosso.

Ruby, not quite purple. Tarry nose. Dry, pronounced acidity, medium-bodied, with moderate levels of dusty, somewhat bitter tannins. Some sour cherry fruit but not the bright red I was expecting. Mesquite grilled skirt steak should help with the rough edges.
