One of the most brittle corks I’ve seen. After miraculously extracting it, it literally crumbled. Being unfamiliar with this wine, I can’t say if this had an impact. I liked the energetic fruit but clearly this was on the far back side of its slope. The acid was significantly out of balance. Impressive with food.

Bodega Abadía Retuerta is a winery to the west of Ribera del Duero in the autonomous region of Castilla y León. It is known for its red blended and varietal wines made from Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot. The estate is specifically located in Sardon de Duero, and Abadía Retuerta has been influential in increasing the profile and recognition of the area. Techinally outside the Ribera del Duero DO, all of the company's wines carry the Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León designation, although many include 'Viñedos Propios Sardon de Duero' on the label as well.

Having lost its gloss the wine is on it's slow descent over the hill. That being said the wine remains in a verygood place with a lingering clove and spice finish and an elegance. A wine of another time and for a first vintage it is extraordinary that it remains perky and more importantly delicious.

Maintains a deep purple color with notes of black fruit and creme de cassis on the nose and palate. Past it's peak but still very enjoyable.

Sour first note, no middle, great finishing note. Very green and tart.
