An Afternoon of Azelia Barolo (E&R Wines, Portland OR): The nose is lovely and perfumed, showing off a bit of nuance to the tones of crushed berries, sour red fruits, red cherries, peppery notes, mints, licorice, sweet tobacco, and a good bit of violets. There is excellent depth with a style that really draws you in. The Full bodied feel carries over the nuance and balance of the nose with tart, high acidity and youthful, high tannins. The youth of the wine is apparent but it's also a real lovely, young Barolo. There is a fair amount of runway for this to improve and this is probably one of the more enjoyable 17s that I've had so far.

The '17 Bricco Fiasco was very nice and an improvement in both complexity and texture vs. the base Barolo. On the nose, I found complex red berry fruit tones of red raspberries, strawberries, and cherries, alongside floral aromas and smoke. On the palate, I found lighter red raspberry and strawberry fruit, spices, red florals, and smoke. The tannins were relatively fine grained but still firm and in need of some time.
