  • During a GER/AUT blind tasting. The leanest of all dry Riesling today. mineralic, grassy, flinty, citrus. Light and lean without being thin. A purist wine.

  • - Expressive nose with aromas of apricot, peach, very chalky, lots of herbs and compared to Wittmann and Pichler "unendlich" the lightest wine. Very well balanced and sufficient acidity. Great stuff from a purist producer.

  • Wow…. Superbly complex and layered, with notes of grapefruit, citrus, some orange zest, there is also some flowery note, tons of minerality, a slightly musky mineral note of seashell, there is also some honey, ginger, some quince. It‘s pretty full-bodied, with high acidity and some creaminess, there is also a touch of tannin adding structure and grip. Long finish. I can‘t wait to see how this will develop. A great Riesling from this fantastic producer.

  • I gave this a 2 hour decant to open up the aromatics. Lighter-medium golden color. Explosive, with notes of ripe mirabelle, some peach, apricot, some stoney minerality, a touch of slate, smoke, white blossoms, orange zest, building up aromatic complexity the longer it sits in the glass. There is medium-full body, excellent persistence, high acidity that is well buffered by the wine‘s richness and wealth of fruit, and just a touch of phenolic richness. Long finish with great complexity and depth. An amazing dry Riesling that is a slight outlier in style from this producer but just beautiful and very unique. (95+)

  • Intense Riesling aroma with notes of pear, lemon, orange. Green stone fruit flavors, also lime, orange zest, coconut and chalk/stone on the finish. Intensely fruity, but absolutely no sweetness whatsoever — trippy! Well balanced with a good amount of acidity.

Big fan of this wine. This will cruise in the cellar for many years.

This is the first ever Ellergrub Reserve. The winemakers decided to keep a small parcel of grapes in their top site, the Grand Cru Ellergrub, on the vines for a longer time in the hopes that they could make a noble sweet wine. But noble rot never set in, so weeks later they came back and harvested the grapes which were still perfect. The wine was fermented to complete dryness and sat in a cold cellar on the fine lees for two years.
