Lesser Italian White Varietals (Duchman Family Winery Driftwood, Texas): “More like punch than wine,” several tasters declared, some called it juicy fruit wine, others Hawaii punch. Initially this was a lot of sweet citrus on the nose and red fruit on the palate, a tropical fruit salad. It seemed one-dimensional, though several liked the wine; others didn’t like the “industrial fruit” they discerned. Add some flavors of lush apricot and dried banana, this “bantam weight” wine was cloying and perplexing.
