  • had with some friends on the roof. again, this grenache, syrah, cinsault, mourvedre and carignan blend packed a lot of complexity at its $15 price point. the nose showed pickles, rasberry and blackberries and some smoke. over time, it developed a kind of garlicy/herbal aroma that was really interesting. full palate with dense tannins. rich berries, earth and some gaminess on the palate. good fruit, but its got that game and leather thing that i love. would have been better with food and would have been better in a few more years. oh well.

  • Regular dinner group (@ PZ): Full and complex bouquet. Dark chocolate. On the palate a lot of bitterness of dark chocolate as well. Full bodied and concentrated. The wine is completely locked at the moment. Give it some years. Then the score might gain a few points.

  • this is 14% alcohol and an equal blend of grenache, syrah, cinsault, mourvedre and carignan. the nose is full of gorgeous smoke and pepper. rich blackberry and earth flavors on the palate, with medium+ tannin and good acidity. hints of leather linger on the finish. rich and fruity, yet complex and undeniably from southern france. a steal at $15.

  • Better than last week’s effort, yet it failed to deliver any satisfaction. There was an animal nose and oak on the finish, accompanied by lots of acid. That was about it. It slowly improved, the acid integrated better, some body developed it lagged some way short of deliciousness. Nowhere even close to my first experience with this wine. Wonder if this one was a dud too?

  • Showing off here with a cheap bottle to impress. Slightly animal nose. No fruit, then turns medicinal, ending with a good splash of oak. I waited for it to open out but it worsened and became utterly undrinkable. Bollox!
