Very typical graphite pencil lead aromas and flavors here. Medium dark violet color, doesn't show the density and concentration like the '16 did. Tannins are a bit tamer too. More elegance than power.

Expressive nose with layers of blackcurrant, cedar and fine spices. Fresh with an elegant sturcture and a very long finish. Excellent. Gets close to Montrose this vintage (but not quite as impressive!).

Deep dark reddish-purple garnet in color; essentially opaque. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, cassis & boysenberries with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes, exotic spices, cigar box notes of cedar & tobacco, coffee, herbs, minerals, graphite, dark cocoa & a hint of vanilla/oak in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, plush, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blueberries & plums with herbs, minerals, spices & a hint of oak/vanilla. Long lingering finish. Drinks well at present with decanting & extended airing (2 hrs.+) although it should develop further with additional aging at which time it may merit an even higher score (97+).

Once again a wonderfully complete Calon. These people only know how to make good wine. The nose is pure aristocracy.Wafting from the glass with crème de cassis, blueberry, pure kirsch notes, cedar, blond tobacco and marvelous floral scents... I am speechless. On the palate,a lot of distinction and nobility.Rich and luscious, with insane depth, there is such a marvelous purity of fruit in this wine and the tannins are so juicy and so fine.It glides across the palate with a silky/smooth mouthfeel, remarkable texture and a spicy,mineral-laced long finish.Impressive !

PnP. Purple with a rim of dark ruby. Nose of 5 Spice, tobacco, blackberry, pencil shavings and a touch of bacon fat. On the palate, it's freakin' powerful! Consistent with the nose, but noticeable mint and both red and black fruits. LOTS of fruit. No question this wine has decades of life in its future. Tannins prominent but already integrating well into the wine. I feel the alcohol. Not hot, but it's right there. Acid is great. Finish is fruit dominated with a hint of menthol. Good 30s. Very promising and looking forward to see how this will develop over the next two decades!
