Pnp on NYE. While the color was clearly showing it’s age with a light copper shade, the champagne was still remarkably fresh, still a beautiful fine mousse, good acidity, a fine texture on the palate, slightly oxidative but not distracting from a wonderful drinking experience. Nevertheless time to drink up.

From magnum. Opens with a blast, so young and energetic, so much bubbles! Magnum paid off in this case. Full bodied and with a certain tart note to it, the acidity is here big time. Balanced and harmonic, dried fruits on the nose and palate. Now this mature Louise shows what it is all about, as younger Louises have often been too tame for me.

Rioja aged in French oak (Extra Space): What a lovely label. Improperly stored for a long time. Completely oxidised and amber colour. Tastes like Port and brown apples.

At Ledbury. London.
Unlike any previous Champagne, more akin to a Burgundy.
Smokey, layered caramel. Fine bubbles, not so exuberant.
