Took a bit of airing but the wine really came around. Though the wine may have been simple, it was quite enjoyable nonetheless. Nose and palate veered towards red fruits. Moderate in tannins and balanced alcohol.

The Ausario hill is dedicated to Dolcetto as well. The eastern and southern slopes are cultivated with grapes for Dolcetto d’Alba, a modern and young wine which is characterized by cherry and sweet almond notes in the perfume and in the taste. The soil was formed during the Tertiary period, approximately seventy-million years ago as a result of marine sedimentation. The chalky clay soil, has veins of grey marl.
A good discovery. ABV: 13%. Colour: med deep red, med rim, cherry tinge. Nose: full, fresh, very vibrant, floral, cherries, some bonbon notes, indeed almost marzipan like. Taste: light body, rounded if fresh, good cherry notes, good acidity and touches of tannin, med finish, very fruity still, good balance. Overall, good although the slightly confected bonbon notes irritated me until they blew off.
