A colleague gifted this bottle to me (thank you!), so I thought I’d give it a go and write a review.
Moderately aromatic, this has a nose of red plum with a slightly green character and fresh tobacco leaf in the background. Upon sipping, one meets a medium-full bodied wine with medium acidity and high alcohol. It has a very green attack, mostly green bell pepper, which is soon followed by fresh red cherry and red/black plum. The finish is moderate in length and earthy, with secondary notes of cocoa powder and tobacco leaf detectable. There is some oak apparent in the retronasal smell, and it is notable that the green note intensifies after a few sips.
Overall, this wine is simple, approachable and fairly well-balanced. By no means anything sophisticated, but it’s under $10 so what do you expect? It is a bit green for my liking, but it that doesn’t make it unbearable. I do find it odd, however, that there would be significant greenness in a Central Valley wine, as those tend to err on the side of being overripe than underripe. I suspect they mixed in some underripe Cabernet Sauvignon they got from somewhere elsewhere in California, but this is just conjecture on my part.
So, if you’re looking for an affordable crowd pleaser, this is a decent choice. Maybe a good wine for a barbeque?

Medium plus intensity on the nose with ripe black plum, red plum, strawberry, blackberry, black currant leaf, mint, eucalyptus, bramble, licorice, cinnamon, chocolate and cedar.
Medium plus intensity and dry on the palate with blueberry coming through. Medium acidity, medium tannins, medium plus body, high alcohol, medium plus finish.
Can drink now but has potential for aging. Easy drinking, fruity red.

A good daily drinker type of wine. Great QPR. Easy drinking. Nothing super complex, but nothing off either. Just a decent, basic merlot.

Someone brought this to a BBQ a couple of weeks ago and opened it yesterday. OK at best. Too sweet and syrupy.
