Community Tasting Notes (2)

  • Lightly corked. Starts out with light floral and earthy aromas, the fruit feels a little thin and tired in the mouth with some TCA noticeable on the back end. Shame, as the bottle looked in great condition.

  • Lovely bright ruby color, like a young Burgundy. Nose of layered black and red fruit, intermixed with tobacco, leather and floral elements. Initial attack is bright red fruit, with refreshing acidity, and layering in the mid-palate and throughout the tannin driven extended finish. Tannins largely but not fully resolved. Soft secondary tastes of game and leather appeared about 10 minutes after splash decanting.

Though a pleasure to enjoy this mature Volnay, it lacks the warmth of the '90 Voillots I finished years ago. Lovey with asparagus rissoto.
