  Tasted vis-a-vis the 1999, this just comes out short; just barely. Deep, mineral, stony with iron, so much Cornas here, black fruit with som elightness. Persists for a long time - still way to go.

  Decanted at 3 and got into it much later, 10:30 maybe. It needed at least 5 of those hours - I wasn’t sure how much I liked it before then. Initially it showed kind of clunky, a smoky tarry wine without much in the way of nuance. With time it became more composed and clear in its expression of red (!) fruit, dark smoky flowers and minerals. This is entirely correct, it’s brambly and rustic but also shows elegance and poise. It’s a very good wine, but not a great Verset.

  Beautiful wine with more finesse than I would have expected. Pure, precise, crystalline with dark fruits, some minerality, medium-light body. Still quite young in its fruit, although tannins are resolved. Just a great bottle. Not the slightest hint of brett. Cellared since original release, Kermit Lynch import.

  Always a treat to drink Verset. Deep ruby color. Classic nose of meat, game, spice, pepper, campfire and grilled notes. Loads of depth and complexity - this is baby and has a long way to go. Probably not even in its peak drinking window yet. A real pleasure to try today and this has plenty of upside.
