  • Straw color. Pears and melon with a light oak note. Medium-plus acidity with a pleasant long, dry finish.

  • 2020 Clos du Mont-Olivet Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc was rich and honeyed, while maintaining freshness and balance. The youthful CNDP white was clear and pale lemon in colour without any sediments. It took an hour of in-bottle aeration to open up expressive aromas of white peach, honeysuckle and sage herbs, followed by cream and toasted nuts.

The mouthfeel was dry and full-bodied, complemented with a medium level of balanced acidity. The richness and a vein of saline minerals contributed to its mid-palate weight. Flavours of cooked apples, honey and butter persisted in a long, gently spiced finish. The alcohol level was at 14%. The empty bottle weighed 614 grams.

Detailed winemaking information is provided on the winery website. The blend is composed of 40% Clairette, 30% Roussanne, 14% Bourboulenc, 10% Grenache Blanc and the balance of other permitted varieties. The relatively large proportion of Clairette and Roussanne is uncommon in Southern Rhône whites. The vines are cultivated predominantly on clay and sand from the lieux-dits of Montalivet, La Grenade, La Font du Pape, Les Cabanes and Palestor. The grapes are harvested early in the morning to preserve its freshness and aromatics. The juice is fermented in 85% stainless steel vats, 11% new oak barrels and 4% used oak barrels.

  • This has settled down since i first tasted it. Not quite as powerfull and some of the bitterness has gone. Nice nose with melon. A nice medium bodied palate with pepper and spice ending in a medium finish. This is fresh, clean and just tasting good.

  • I dont drink many white chateauneufs, but first impression is that this has plenty of power and a quite bitter finish, but it is fresh and vibrant. Nose with plenty of minerals, a hint of pineapple and salt. Fine palate thats oily with plenty of fruit. Long finish and this is very satisfying.
