  • Never was able to get into it, seems undeveloped and untapped, raisins when first opened, yeasty berry after a few days, overall not good or just not a fan, and I usually like a natural wine, but this is not drinkable, going to just file it in the flaw section and would not try or buy again

  • Deep ruby and pronounced nose deep red fruit. But the VA on this was aggressive out of the gate. After about 6 hours it mellowed and became far more enjoyable. Fun wine as expected from Radikon. Good depth and complexity given some time.

  • Radikon RS - not your grandma's Merlot. I simply love this wine and would say it's a great introduction to minimal intervention reds, as it's not overly funky (when you get a good bottle, that is). Just has a nice edge to it to bring it over to the line of your "classic" Merlot. This has Pignolo inside as well, but just 20% (for a tannic injection). Only flaw to this wine is the unfortunate inconsistency from bottle to bottle - at times you get incredible juice, other times the VA is blasting your face off. So I approach this as a kind of roulette - if I win, I know I'm getting myself into a good time.

The fruit here appears in a powerful wallop of concentrated blackberry and Morello cherry. In the mouth, near-perfect balance between lush floral lily and spritely acid etching the stain of teeth-wiping black cherry, currant and blueberry onto all surfaces. This doesn't make nods to any other country except Italy, the cooler parts especially. Muddles into the finish where tannin and a bit of barnyard funk truly shine for a fine minutes-long revelation. I find that this wine has years to go on it so it should be interesting to follow its journey. Serious bang-for-the-buck in the Radikon arsenal.

  • Day 1 - I have problem rating/fully enjoying this wine - this tastes extremely similar to “Isabelle Carles et Franck Pascal (LE JONC BLANC) Les Sens du Fruit” (bio Bergerac), which is my favorite but costs only $16-18. I gave 89-90 to that wine (and I drunk many bottles of that) - I have to follow the same rating to remove price/pedigree bias in favor of this iconic producer. Copying my previous tasting note for Sens du Fruit - probably Radikon RS has more jammed strawberry / bitter dark cherry core and tighter sandy/tingly tannin, but still enjoyment level / build is similar. 89. Better/still improving on day 6, with no sign of oxidization (but again, the cheaper Sens du Fruit can do that equally). 89-90.

Day 10 - finally in shape, calm and deep dried plum and dusty blackberry with amazing lengths and stability. 90-91. Too young to open now.

(This is note for Sens du Fruit, not Radikon RS) Per back label, 77% Merlot, 23% Cab. Color - inky blackish core with vivid pastel purple at the very rim. Nose - a lot of blackberry, both fresh and jammed, iron, and banana bread. Minor hint of reduction/boiled egg. Mouth - high acidity, with medium++ ripe sweet tannin with thick round texture like greek yogurt. Medium++ finish. Overall, juicy, inky, smooth and concentrated, almost reminds of natural Cahor. Excellent value for $18, and consistent quality year to year.

  • Highly floral on the nose, alongside black cherry and black plum. Also graphite. Some heat. Mega charred embers on the palette, almost charcoal. Also loads of flowers and blackberry added to the cherry and plum. Massive tannin which I love. Bit of dark chocolate on the finish. Great richness.
