  • Needed 3 hours breathing no nose but still drinkable though past its prime

  • Dulcie has brought the Boeuf Bourguignon out of temporary retirement and demands a burgundy to put in it. This is always a slightly painful exercise, though one that must be done, for the prospect of emptying a bottle of wine that has been carefully stored for years into a boiling pot is not a happy one. An examination revealed that the Drouhin was by far the least expensive option and so was chosen to be sacrificed. Still I couldn't let it go without at least a small sample.

Clear garnet red, aromas of damp earth with pretty floral notes appearing, tart cherry fruit dominate the palate initially, medium-high acid gives it plenty of zest, some minerality, and spice. Not a complicated profile but actually jolly decent for the price. It would have served well on the table to accompany the dish.

PS, I note the last TN on this was two years ago. Do I keep mine too long? This seemed to be in its element right now.

  • Round and easy drinking. Fresh with dark cherry, earth, field flowers and spice notes. A little hollow but why complain. Drinking great for a wine of this stature. Drink up.

  • J. Drouhin Cote de Beaune Villages 05

What a surprise here! Almost perfectly ready to be drunk a beauty from a good producer in a great vintage.
Needs air, them air, more air and air again. If not you can think this wine is corked when is just closed. CT mates, let them breath freely!
Then now we are talking; beautiful mature colour for a cherry coke and earthy nose. Detectable mushrooms too. Nice complexity for this range. On the palate same rich typicity plenty of wet wood memories. Creamy, well- balanced acidity. I enjoyed very much this bottle.
