  • This Marie Amelie 2014 in a 0g/l intepretation really needed some extra time in the bottle.

This bottle shined compare with the one I had one year ago which was good but in some way weired.

Multilayered, complex and showing the purity of chardonnay of the Monatgne de Reims.

Gave its best when it reached 10C° and after half an hour from ther opening.

Drank in Reiedel Vinum Champagne stems

  • Clearly this is quite a different wine from year to year. Earlier vintages seem to have been up to 7g/l dosage, but the 2014 is 0g Brut Nature. 9 months sur lies in enamel vats and then minimum 6 years sur lies in bottles. 4406 bottles produced, no specific disgorgement date.

This needs a few minutes of air to settle down (the mousse and acidity being rather aggressive on first opening).

Then it evolves quite rapidly in the glass: initially there's a very toasty, yeasty nose, strong minerality on the palate, and crisp, but not dominating, acidity. The yeastiness on the nose subsides and citrus notes appear. The palate becomes smoother: minerality, bread and citrus notes in good balance. The finish is very clean and crisp without being "jaw-clapping".

Overall this is a very decent aperitif fizz to get the juices flowing. OK QPR at the ~US$49 that I paid. I'm vacillating between 90 and 91.

  • Bruised lemon, big in mouthfeel and body, a similar taste to the chalkiness I get from Mesnil with a riper body. Very nice but needs time.
