  My first Pinotage in many, many years. Spioenkop 1900 is ruby red along the edges, somewhat restrained on the nose, but with that characteristic Pinotage smell of moist earth, or is it that faint odor of livestock just as you open the door to a barn?
  
  Well, on the palate, balanced but rather shy in terms of fruit, but it has this wonderful, spicy acidity that lingers on for a good 10-15 seconds. Another sip and there it is again! There are tannins in there too, but this kind of acidity, in a Pinotage anyway, is new to me.
  
  Spioenkop leaves me puzzled in the sense that I really like the latter part (the acidity), while the first part is too flat, for my liking. Maybe a few more years in the cellar will lure it out of the closet? I don't know. So since this is my first tasting of a Pinotage in a very long time, I will have to try a different one, a Kanonkop Pinotage to be exact, for the sake of comparison, before passing a final verdict on this one. But I like it.

  Mon premier Pinotage depuis de très nombreuses années. Spioenkop 1900 est rouge rubis sur les bords, un peu retenu au nez, mais avec l'odeur caractéristique du Pinotage, de la terre humide, ou est-ce bien cette légère odeur de bétail, lorsqu'on ouvre la porte d'une grange ?
  
  Ce 1900 est très équilibré mais plutôt timide en terme de fruit. Pourtant, il y a cette merveilleuse acidité épicée qui entre en jeu et qui persiste pendant 10 à 15 bonnes secondes. Une autre gorgée et le revoilà ! Il y a des tanins là-dedans aussi, mais ce genre d'acidité, dans un pinotage en tout cas, est nouveau pour moi.
  
  Bref, Spioenkop me laisse perplexe dans le sens où j'aime beaucoup la dernière partie (l'acidité), alors que la première partie est trop plate, je trouve. Peut-être que quelques années supplémentaires en cave le feront sortir du placard ? Je ne sais pas.
  
  Comme il s'agit du premier Pinotage depuis très longtemps, je vais devoir essayer une autre bouteille, un Kanonkop plus précisément, à titre de comparaison, avant de me prononcer définitivement sur celle-ci.
