  • The Welschriesling Veitlhansl comes from the vineyard Ried Ottenberg, located at 330 meters above Ehrenhausen. The soil is characterized by clayey calcareous sandstone. The wine was spontaneously fermented down to 1.1 grams of residual sugar. The Welschriesling was on the fine lees in neutral 500 tonneau for 22 months and was then bottled unfiltered.

The Tements have elevated Welschriesling, a mostly rather step-motherly Austrian variety, to a new level. This is noticeable in the Veitlhansl, which is once again concise and full of character in 2019. The Welschriesling is reminiscent of yellow apples and green pears along with their skins. There are also notes of nashi pears, quince and grapefruit zest, as well as a whole battery of fine spicy notes of nuts, herbs, some tobacco and hops, anise, ginger and meadow flowers.

On the palate, the 2019 Welschriesling is punchy, juicy, tonic and mineral with white-fleshed as well as slightly yellow-fleshed fruit, some pineapple and lime, again ginger and a bit of tonic. The wine has a nice acid bite and a zesty tart note on the finish. This is impressively complex and certainly a reference to this grape variety in this style and price range.
