Jamie's DC visit Barolo and Barbaresco: Served blind. Fully mature nose displaying very ripe yellow fruit, dry peach, baked apple, burnt sugar, a hint of botrytis and sweet spices. Medium concentration, very ripe yellow fruit, sweet, medium acidity and a medium long ripe yellow fruit driven finish. My guess is a premier crus from a very ripe year, perhaps 2010. I find it straightforward and a bit advanced. Caveat emptor!
P.S. Blind tasting is a lot easier in a proper tasting setting. This seems a lot more advanced than the previous bottle.

This bottle tasted like it was 7 years older than the bottle opened a few months ago. The good news was more intensity and richness. The bad news was dark color for its age and a sense this wouldn’t last long. I would be curious to drink other vintages of this wine, and remain of the opinion this is a fine villages not a unicorn.

Read this was a ringer for great Chevalier-Montrachet so had to try it. The good news is the wine is clean and pleasant. The less good news is it lacks the intensity or finish of a grand cru or even a premier cru. This is a tasty well made villages wine that performs admirably for its price. Seems like the winemaker let the terroir speak, not a heavy signature here. Would be happy to drink again without expectations of it being more than a fine villages.

A lost Friday afternoon gathering – how to semi cheat in a blind tasting (Black Salt, Washington DC): Served blind as a “Chevy”. Very mineral nose, the palate is pretty straightforward. My initial guess is a village Chablis. A couple of the guys love the wine and suggest Leflaive Chevalier. I smell again and there is a strong banana note which I often associate with Chevalier. It is mineral which is not typical of Chevalier. My guess is the 17 Girardin Chevalier. Oh well! It is a delicious white burgundy, very pure fruit and delicious.
