  • I can't say I love the Magniens wines, though this was better than others. Very nice funk on the nose, sous bois and crushed autumn leaves. There's also some oak but it's an appealing bouquet. Still a youngster, but this felt simplistic and plasticky to me, like Magnien's hand was involved in its creation much more than it should have been. The fruit is nice and ripe, but it just strikes me as simple and uninteresting overall.

  • Decanted for 1/2 hour before rebottling and recorking to take to restaurant. The last bottle of Fred's wine we had (Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes Vieilles Vignes) was somewhat New World in style. This was much more Old World. Fragrant berry nose with some barnyard notes. Masculine palate with young tannins well balanced by fruit and earth. I enjoyed the wine so much with my escargot in garlic butter I didn't extensively analyze. I look forward to revisiting this one.

  • Delicious, sappy red cherry flavors, floral aroma, and a longfinish. Can be drunk now, but will be better with 2 years more bottle age.
