  • Good white Burg alternative - minerals, clean, slightly low alcohol.

  • Impressive wine in an almost extreme mineral style. Fine notes of chalk and flint on tje nise. Muted fruit. Medium to full bodied attack, lots of acidity and a bone dry mid palate. Some sweet pear on the finish before the chalky tones take over. Demanding wine if very high quality. My first meeting with this wine. I hope it will not be the last

  • A totally new experience for me. Straw yellow with fine streaks of green. Nose dominated by grapefruit which turn into olive notes when warming up. Full bodied attack, lots of grapefruit and lemon on the mid palate while the finish is fresh, almost tannic, and with some intriguing notes of green olives. Long and fresh aftertaste. Clearly a serious wine, concentrated, but lacks some complexity. Too young? This will keep for many years, that is sure.

  • A private dinner with friends (Restaurant Bar du Champagne, Amsterdam, NL): Biodynamic viticulture. A blend of 40% Jacquère, 30% Roussanne, 20% Malvoisie and 10% Mondeuse Blanche, aged in older wood for 12 months. As Original verkorkt sets out below, it marries juicy, almost succulent fruit to the freshness of a mountain stream in a manner that is quite unique.

  • The "Schiste" is a wine that year after year defies all the usual categories for great white wines. That it possesses greatness is unquestionable. But it also eludes the typical categorizations. It is neither clearly northern nor southern.

Nose: On the one hand, it has a ripe, charming fruit with yellow and green notes, on the other hand, it seems as clear and brilliant as a mountain stream after the snow has melted. One finds green and yellow pears as well as apples, mirabelles and Reineclauden, kumquats and limes, furthermore stone and herbs.

Palate: It becomes great on the palate, where the "Schiste" shows itself to a high degree juicy, ripe as well as silky and yet extremely lively in the acidity, but above all cool and deep in the vibrating minerality. In addition, there is a fine smoky note, as if it actually came from the quartzite rock and not from aging. Even if there may still be something like the Grand Cru of the Savoy with the "Quartz" from the winery, the "Schiste" is already "1er Cru" at the highest level, character material - deep and complex, while always showing new faces like at a masked ball.

Info: As the name "Schiste" suggests, the vines planted close to individual vines grow on lean slate soils, on mica slate with sandy loess overlay. It is the traditional varieties Jacquère, Roussanne, Malvoisie and Mondeuse Blanche that are found in this cuvée. The vines have been farmed biodynamically from the beginning and today yield around 30 hl/ha. After harvest, the grapes are slowly pressed into used barriques after a short standing period, where they ferment spontaneously and are aged for twelve months.
