  • Very tropically fruity and perfumey on the nose yet markedly salty as well. Yellow plum, pineapple and floral notes - really bright attractive without coming off as a ”generic” Muscat. On the palate quite easy on the entry and pretty relaxed rest of the way too, this is not the most intensely acidic example out there but similarly to the nose there is a wonderful salty edge here. The mouthfeel is rather refined with its combination of good volume and lift. Very low in weight which is less than surprising given the 12% ABV. There is spiciness and power to the palate that colors it a bit more serious in nature than the nose but then it is impressively vivid too with something playful about it. The finish is balanced and lingers for a good while. There could be some residual sugar here but overall it comes off as quite savory. I can see it having a bit of upside but definitely nothing wrong in drinking it right now.

  • My first time ever trying a single vineyard Gelber Muskateller.

High intensity of aromas - lillies, daffodills, ladies' perfume and some tropical fruit like pineapple and mango. It smells like it's going to be a sweet wine (it isn't). The palate has less floral characteristics and continues the tropical fruit flavors, complimenting them with lemongrass, salt, brine and oyster shells. Surprisingly, this is bone dry. Medium bodied, medium + acid.

    Weird, rare and cool.

  • The Gelbe Muskateller 2019 comes from the site Ried Steinbach Fürst, a 1st STK site, which is based in red sand. The wine was spontaneously fermented down to 2.9 grams RZ at 5.9 grams acidity. The Steinbach Fürst spent 22 months on its fine lees in steel tanks. It is the only Tement wine aged exclusively in stainless steel.

Light straw yellow with yellow and silver highlights.

It is always a feast to have this wine in the glass; because, in addition to all the offensive fruit, the Gelber Muskateller appears fine, elegant and finessed. It smells of kaffir lime leaves and limequats, of elderflower and white cassis, of lemongrass, of a little ginger and passion fruit and cool rock flour.

On the palate, the 2019 Steinbach Fürst is tonic, punchy and mineral, stony, cool and elegant. The aforementioned fruit aromas show through here as well. However, nothing seems loud or aggressive here either, but noble and coherent in itself. The wine seems complex and yet is prancingly light and energetic, juicy with the fruit of cassis and mirabelle, tart and spicy with an impressive length and potential for at least a decade.
