I’m a bit sad because this is the third and last bottle of various Loring Chardonnays we picked up on Beserker Day. This one was another damn good wine. A bit of pineapple on the nose gives way to an intense pop of tropical fruit on the palate with a bit of minerality on the moderate length finish. Perhaps not the best of the three but still loved its body and power.

Brian credits his time at Cottonwood and the good efforts of the Becko family for his launch into his own label. With Santa Barbara’s 2020 vintage damaged by wildfires, Brian’s continued success can, in part, be attributed to the Beckos and Cottonwood fruit. The brilliant yellow is like sunshine in the glass. Golden apple, lemon curd, lemon drop, baked bread and yeast crowd the attack and jockey for attention. They all tumble along the mid-palate and into the finish where the lemon drop and yeast display lasting power on this oh-so-long finish. For a Loring wine, this is a bit restrained and probably would have benefited from decanting. Quite a lot going on in the glass. 13.5% alc. With baked cod wrapped in country ham. 08.25.22. Recommended.
