  • Pretty yummy 😋 from SAMsARA Wine Co. and the heralded 2019 vintage. Medium intensity aromas of bing cherry, clove, white pepper and cola with developing characteristics. Dry and medium acidity on the palate with medium intensity flavors of same with additional traces of apricot (super fun 🤩) medium tannins, high but respectable alcohol (14.4 abv) and a crisp long finish. Very agreeable Rhône blend of Syrah and Grenache from Santa Barbara county. Outstanding wine. Can drink now may have potential for further aging.

  • 75 Syrah, 25 Grenache

Blueberries, dark plums, red flowers, orange peel, maple with some spice notes. Medium + body with great acidity. Lifted with good tension between the fruit and the non fruit flavors.

  • This is really an exceptional wine. It exudes powerful aromas of black pepper, game, rubber, and black tea. The palate seems soft and fruity until the big tannins kick in. My overall impression is that this wine is the most serious that I’ve tasted in the Samsara portfolio. I don’t have a good feel for how this will age. My thinking today, contrary to my last review, is that this wine would benefit from at least five years of bottle age.

  • This is a very successful wine. Complex aromatic profile with primary notes of smoked rubber, game, and strawberry preserve and lighter notes of green strawberry leaf and black pepper. Yet it drinks easily, with juicy acidity and moderate tannins. This wine has its own unique style; I wouldn’t liken it to Rhone wines. The core bright fruity character is similar to that of Samsara’s pinots, but the aromas are obviously different. I don’t know whether this wine was intended for serious aging, but my feeling is that the best time to drink it is probably 2023, and certainly it is good to drink now.
