Community Tasting Notes (2) Avg Score: 90.5 points

  • Orange and lemon zests, citrus flower, green and yellow apples. Concentrated, but also refreshing thanks to juicy acidity. Grapefruit bitterness on the finish. I like this a lot, but it is not complex enough to merit a higher score, and I do not believe it has the stuffing to age. Will be at its best now - 2027, but should keep well until 2030

  • I very much enjoyed this bottle which is the entry level Smaragd for this producer. Color coming out of the bottle is a bit on the light side, even taking into account the relatively young age; something like a pale straw yellow. Nose was very citrusy, candied lemon, with peach. The secondary elements that you'd associate with a nice riesling have not yet developed, so it's really just fruit and a bit of minerality at this point. Finish fairly long with some zesty acidity that is nicely placed. Although drinkable now, I think the wine still start to put on some weight and should nicely evolve for the next 5-7 years into a more denser, formidable, complex bottle. Drank over two nights with consistent notes. So far so good and nice price point too - very happy with the purchase.
