  • This is ready to drink. Lovely mix of macerated cherries, earth, leather. Lovely balance to the palate with all tannins resolved and fruit just holding on. Any further age and could start looking old and under fruited

  • Dinner 10/2/13 of braised lamb and roast boar. Ruby hued in the glass. Very stiff and sour at first pour, softening after just minutes in the decanter. Nice plum/berry/cola aromas at first, harder to find later. Good body and mouthfeel for about an hour, but thinned out over the course of the meal. Drink up.

  • I opened two 1997 Brunellos; Solaria and Tenute Silvio Nardi side by side. Neither were decanted. Frankly, I was a little disappointed in both. I don't think many of the 1997 Brunellos are living up to reviews upon release. Both of these tasted a bit tired and dry. I like plenty of dried fruit and earth in Italian wines, However, these seemed to have lost too much of their fruit. Of the two, the Nardi seemed to have more life.

  • This was a full bodied Brunello with plenty of life left. It did not get decanted and was consumed pretty quickly at a big family Christmas dinner so my tasting notes are sketchy at best. However, everyone liked this wine and it held its own with some other "big boys".
