Time made a difference on this one! Smoke, black cherry, serious fruit & minerals on long finish. I don't know what happened, but I wish I had another bottle to drink!

Absolutely must be decanted, even if it means sitting a long time in the glass. You will be rewarded with an amazingly classic Pinot. Before decanting, it's only nice. After decanting (an hour or so), it's stellar. It reminds me of a young Peay. I'm sitting on a couple of bottles for a while before I open any more.

Have to say that the Abiouness wines tend to be hit or miss. Have loved some vintages and types (Stanley Ranch, Pommard Clones) while others have left me unimpressed (Sangiovese and Hudson). The fruit is generally quite tasty, but there is an astringency and heat that just is a turn-off. Not sure the cause. Was present in the Hudson vineyard as well.

A nice, complete pinot, with red cherry and some cranberry tartness, brambly spices. I liked this quite a lot, pleased at the $20 price I got.
