Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • This is a cudgel, at 15.5% alcohol. Very dark. It has the amarone sweetness up front, followed by an array of spice flavors -- cinnamon and allspice, among others. Low tannin. Moderate acidity. I don't like sweetness in my red wine, but I selected this because some of the CT tasting notes (of other vintages) suggested that it is a drier version of amarone, and because I thought the wine would go well with our fully-flavored meal -- pork shoulder with orange and chilis, and spicy greens and beans. The wine did go very well with the meal -- the richness and depth of the wine stood up to the strong flavors, and the spiciness masked the sweetness of the wine. But without the food, the sweetness is exposed and challenging. Obviously, many others will like this much more than I did.
