decanted 45 minutes; subtle sandalwood nose, with sage and other herbal notes; dark ruby red with just a touch of bricking under intense bright lights; tart red cherry flavors mixing with more herbal notes, there is still a lot of fruit in this wine, just not juicy/fresh fruity kind; the tannin's are soft but very integrated with the palate and leads to a smooth finish. This is something only time can make. Amazing.

From a 5L. It was a bit of a process to get the cork out. Wax had to be softened and underneath that the cork was fairly soaked through and crumbly. Strained and decanted and enjoyed. This was prob a touch over the hill if I had to guess, but still really quite enjoyable. It's got a full set of more tertiary notes - the olive tapanade. Still has the red fruits (a hint faded). Well balanced. Got better for the first 30 minutes of air and then seemed to even out and stayed strong through the end. Very enjoyable.
Hart Davis Hart BYOB Dinner (Hinterland Gastropub, Milwaukee, WI): Similar to the previous bottle, very appealing tobacco, earth, and red fruit. Still very lively, this was fine drinking and would have been classic if it weren't for the massive and lingering tannins that really called for a solid food pairing.

Don't have detailed notes but I remember this was a beast considering its age. Blackberry, cherry, forest and mocha all coming together quite impressively. And the cork showed signs of seepage!! 33+ years old!!!! Glad I have another one, the '79 is getting to be hard to find.

Surprisingly, rich, highly extracted black cherry fruit, rough, course cassis flavors, excellent structure, wine is still developing
