  • 100% Syrah, 13.5% abv. Comes from several plots in the communes of Mercurol, Beaumont-Monteux and Larnage. The wine was partially aged in oak demi-muids for 8 months before bottling. The aromatics are very characteristic of Syrah from this place of the northern Rhône with ripe fruits (strawberry jam and black plums), sweet spices, a subtle smoky background (bacon I guess), a bit of peony and a hint of liquorice. On the palate, there is a big presence with a full body supported by cute little round tannins. It's less complex than on the nose, more monolithic, mainly focused on exuberant fruit. The freshness is present through a fine acidity and a bitterness that rises crescendo from the middle of the mouth to the aftertaste. Harsh on day 1 despite an one-hour aeration in a decanter, it fully revealed itself on day 2. This bottle delivers exactly what is expected of it. Hold and revisit in 5 years.
