  • Well made and for $10 no complaints, but I'm not thrilled. This Garagiste mystery wine was repeatedly called a Bordeaux blend, but it's 2/3rds Cinsault which is not allowed in Bordeaux to my knowledge. I'm almost never a fan of mixing Bdx and Rhone grapes (although I'd be excited to taste a Merlot-Mourvedre) and I think the 1/3rd CS would have been much better as Mourvedre (and maybe some Syrah). Calling this a Bdx Blend is straight up lying.

As constructed, it has a very pretty nose of violets, lavender, green peppercorn, underripe blackberry, black tea and graphite. The palate has tart red fruit, medium-light body and medium tannins that stick out due to the lack of body making this drink something like a Nebbiolo. As such it probably needs more cellar time to drink at peak but it's not exciting enough to hold onto. Pair with Quiche Lorraine or a steak salad.

  • Needs about 50 minutes in the glass before it's at its best. Flowers, barely ripe cherries, bitter cocoa, spicy raspberries, followed by a medium-long aftertaste with a touch of molasses or licorice, ending on a bitter note. Not all that complex, but enjoyable. The score and description reflect the wine at its best. [Tasted from the Jancis Robinson glass. I briefly tried the Conterno glass and the Riedel Vinum Zinfandel/Chianti/Riesling glass as well, but found them disappointing with this wine.]

  • I spent some time arguing with myself on 88 or 89. I decided I was wasting time and gave it the 89. You might think lower and half of me would agree

All that said I enjoyed this wine but felt something was holding it back from being better.

  • Interesting leathery, animalistic notes on the nose, along with cranberry and dried black cherry. Tannins are fairly soft. Drinking great, will age next another year.

  • Bandaid intially, needs an hour or more decant. Opened up beautifully with some red plum, sandlewood with bright acidity with a hint of licorice at the finish
